EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, in collaboration with the Environmental Center for Arab Towns and with the support of Dubai Municipality and ATO, is organising the webinar “Smart and sustainable local energy planning” and is scheduled for Tuesday 2 June 2020 at 10.00 CET.

In recent years, cities have been turning to advanced technologies to become Smart Cities. This term is used to describe Information and Communication Technological (ICT) solutions for cities and to highlight ICT importance and potential in helping the city to develop competitive advantages. Within the Industry 4.0 new paradigm, new powerful technologies are already being deployed towards smart energy cities. The increasing momentum of big data applications constitutes a significant opportunity for the energy sector in the field of energy management, environmental protection and energy conservation. However, convergence between technological progress and sustainability is not that obvious.

Moreover, one of the major challenges for the implementation of local energy and climate policy planning is the successful development of a Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP), especially within the framework of the Covenant of Mayors’ initiative. The local and regional authorities have to identify the best fields of actions and opportunities for reaching their long-term CO2 reduction target, combined to the appropriate financing mechanisms.

In this respect, this training webinar aims to exchange experiences, knowledge and best practices on all aspects of smart energy cities and intelligent energy management, as well as smart and sustainable local energy planning. Moreover, during the webinar relevant EU and GCC best practices and case studies, as well as opportunities for EU GCC partnerships will be highlighted.

The webinar “Smart and sustainable local energy planning” will focus on:

  • Tools and methods for the development of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs) - The EU Covenant of Mayors Experience and lessons learnt;
  • Mainstreaming energy efficiency projects – the «Triple-A» approach;
  • Digitizing energy savings – an alternative approach for local and regional authorities: Bahrain city case study.
