EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network is organising a web discussion on "Climate change and clean energy in light of Covid-19 and oil price developments", taking place on Thursday 14 May 2020 at 12.00 CET.

The covid-19 crisis has impacted the global economy and managing the implications is a new global priority. While there is some evidence that the resulting economic slowdown has temporarily reduced greenhouse gas emissions, air pollutants and demand for oil, the extent to which it will be sustained is unknown. Countries from the EU and GCC are also announcing stimulus packages to help get the economies back on track. This discussion will be the first in a series to explore current thinking amongst the EU and GCC regions on these topics and how they can be better prepared for the future. The following key questions will be explored:

  • How has the covid-19 crisis affected action on climate change and clean energy?
  • What impact will the low oil price have on climate change action, energy transition and economic diversification?
  • What are the opportunities to develop green economic stimulus packages?
