About the presenters

Arndt Hassel, Associate Researcher, CEPS and EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network Expert

Arndt Hassel has been working with CEPS as an intern and then as a Research Assistant since early 2016 and is specialized in energy technologies, energy economics and renewable energy policy. He holds a Bachelor degree in process engineering from Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT), a Master degree from KIT and Instituto Superior Técnico de Lisboa in Energy Technologies and training in innovation & entrepreneurship from KIC InnoEnergy Master School. He has carried out research on the topics of advanced biofuels, power-to-gas technology, PV-battery self-consumption, EU energy security, decarbonization of road transport and EU renewable energy policy. Other professional experiences include work in concentrated solar power plant engineering and power market analysis.

Christian Egenhofer,, Associate Senior Research Fellow & Director of Energy Climate House, CEPS and EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network Expert

Christian Egenhofer is Associate Senior Research Fellow & Director of Energy Climate House at the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in Brussels. He is also Visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Bruges and Natolin/Warsaw, Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) at SciencesPo, Paris and Guido Carli LUISS University in Rome. Other university assignments included MBA Programme at the Solvay Business School at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (2003-2008) and MGIMO in Moscow  (2013-14). From 1997 to 2010, he held a part-time position as Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee in Scotland/UK.
He has published 8 books on climate change, energy and issues on European integration in addition to more than 100 reports, articles and book chapters and is lead author of “Ever Changing Union”, arguably the “shortest textbook on the EU”.

•           Member of NATO Task Force “SAS-118 (RTG-056), Enhancing Strategic Awareness of Energy Security - A Holistic Approach” (Start: 2016).
•           Member of the Scientific Committee of the BP Chair on Energy and Sustainability, Comillas University, Madrid (since 2014).
•           Co-Chair, Road Map Group of the European Commission Smart Cities Stakeholder Platform (November 2011-November 2013), producing the first 10 Year Rolling Agenda for Smart Cities (‘Roadmap’) for the European Commission.
•           Member of several editorial committees, among them the ESRI Studies on the Environment, Economic and Social Research Office (ESRI), Cabinet Office, Government of Japan (Chair: Koichi Hamada) 2000-2008.

Daniel Fraile, Senior Analyst Grids and Market, WindEurope

Daniel Fraile is senior analyst for grid and market integration at the European Wind Energy Association (WindEurope). He coordinates industry activities in the area of grid integration, such as the development of European and national grid codes, and supports the WindEurope‘s policy activities on energy market design.
Before joining WindEurope in 2015, Daniel has worked on strategic management consulting in renewable energies at Hinicio, has worked for the European photovoltaic industry association, for the environmental NGO CAN-Europe and for Spanish utility Iberdrola. Daniel is a telecommunications engineer specialized in renewable energy, with over 11 years of experience on energy and research policy, project management and international cooperation in the field of renewable energy.

Alain Taccoen, Head of Stakeholders Relations - EU Strategy, EDF

Alain Taccoen has been working in the electricity industry for two decades in RTE and EDF and is now Head of Stakeholders Relations at EDF European Affairs. He holds an Engineer Degree from the Ecole Centrale de Paris, PhD in Physics from the Université Paris VI and a Master degree in Archaeology from the Université Paris I. He participated to the creation of RTE, the French Transmission System Operator where he held several positions in network regulation (tariff, incentive regulation and assets remuneration) and finance (opening up of capital). Within EDF, after some years within the Strategy Division, he was in charge of the Retail Market regulation. He now participates to several associations such as Eurelectric or SmartEn, dealing especially with governance, climate policies and smart innovation on the retail markets.
